Principal
I began my position at Deer Creek in 1995. Prior to coming to Deer Creek I was an assistant
principal in Putnam City. My previous teaching experience
included kindergarten, first, second, third, and fourth
grades in both Putnam City and Oklahoma City Public School
systems.I was given the honor of Principal of the Year for the
National Southwest Region Award several years ago. I was
also named the District 7A Principal of the Year for Deer
Creek, Putnam City, Bethany, Edmond, and Western Heights.
I am a Great Expectations instructor, and have have helped our school receive Model School
status. I was recently given the honor as Oklahoma Public
Service Administrator of the Year.
My passion is working with children, teachers, and parents
at Deer Creek Elementary. I am married to Bob Straughn who
is a Distribution Manager for McKesson Drug Co. I have two
sons, Jon who graduated from the University of Oklahoma and
lives and works in Norman. My younger son David, is in the
Navy and is stationed on the USS
Nimitz
based in the Persian Gulf where he is currently deployed.
It is a privilege to be principal at Deer Creek Elementary
School where we are "Building
a Brighter Tomorrow."
