For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a
teacher. I love kids, and I love learning; so teaching is the perfect fit.
Coming to deer Creek Elementary School has been a delightful addition to
many years of working with students of all ages.
Born near Chicago, my family moved to Indianapolis
where I grew up and went to high school. Upon graduation I went to Wheaton
College in Illinois and then, after teaching second grade in Indianapolis, I
went back to school and received by Masters in Education with minors in
English and speech from Purdue University. Following this, I taught school
in Colorado Springs. There I met and married my husband and best friend,
Lynn; and we moved to San Francisco where our first child, Lori, was born.
After enjoying this wonderful city, we moved to
Oklahoma City, my husband’s home. He joined Hallmark Real Estate, and is
now the broker/owner of that company. After this move, our second child,
Lon, was born. I stayed home for several years with our children and then
began substituting in the Putnam City School District. Shortly thereafter I
took a job in the district teaching fourth grade, followed by Title 1
Reading, and Reading Recovery. Since then I have taught reading and high
school English at a private Christian school in Bethany. I also started a
kindergarten program at Metropolitan Baptist Church. In August I was
contacted about a position at DCE which I happily accepted.
My children are now grown. My daughter, Lori, a
University of Oklahoma graduate, now lives in Virginia with her husband,
Mark, and our beautiful, brilliant, talented granddaughter, Julia Madison.
Our son, Lon, graduated from Texas Christian University and then from
Southern Methodist University with a Masters in Business. He works for
Verizon, and a year ago he married a wonderful Texas girl named Susan. They
have since been transferred to New Jersey to the Verizon headquarters.
My husband and I are active members of Crossings Community
Church where I have sung in the choir for several years. My other interests
include reading, swimming, exercising, and traveling---especially to see my
children and my wonderful granddaughter. I feel blessed and excited to have
a new “family” at DCE!
