This is Mrs. Austin’s third year at Deer Creek
Elementary. She is proud to be a teacher at such a fantastic school!
She has previously taught 6th grade mathematics at The Advanced
Science and Technology Education Center (ASTEC) Charter School in
Oklahoma City. Mrs. Austin graduated from Oklahoma State University
with a Summa Cum Laude degree in Elementary Education with
certification to teach Intermediate Mathematics. While at OSU, she
was chosen as a Top Ten Senior in the College of Education.
Mrs. Austin has participated in numerous
workshops funded by the No Child Left Behind Act where she learned
interesting and fun ways to teach mathematics concepts using
hands-on activities. Mrs. Austin has written and received several
grants, including one awarded by the National Council of Teachers of
Mathematics. Mrs. Austin’s creative teaching approaches were also
featured in an article in the Daily Oklahoman.
One of Mrs. Austin’s favorite pastimes is
shopping. She especially enjoys shopping with her mom and sister
during school breaks. She has three Shih Tzus, Buddy, Cuddles, and
Gus, who keep her very busy! She is an avid OSU Cowboys fan, and
loves to watch college football and basketball. Go Cowboys! She is
married to Caleb, who is a Civil Engineer for the Oklahoma
Department of Transportation. They are expecting their first child,
a baby boy, in September. |
