Greetings,
My name is Vanessa
Gerst and I am very proud to say that I teach second grade at Deer
Creek Elementary School. I am not new to teaching but I am new to
DCES. I have eleven years of teaching experience only one being in
Oklahoma the state where I was born and raised. I’ve been a military
wife and teacher the past ten years teaching in California, New
Mexico, Texas, and DoDEA Pacific on Misawa Air Base in Japan. Over
those eleven years I’ve gained great experience and have worked in
many different school environments while teaching middle school
Spanish, 3rd grade, 2nd grade and 1st
grade. I can honestly say I am truly impressed by Deer Creek
Elementary School’s vision and feel like it is a great fit for me.
I have been
married for 15 years. I have two boys ages 8 and 4. Both are
excited to be in Oklahoma where they live closer to their
grandparents than ever before.
I attended
Oklahoma State University and graduated with an Elementary Education
degree. I feel life long learning is important so I returned to
school in 2005 and graduated two years later with my Master’s Degree
in Elementary Reading and Literacy Instruction from Walden
University.
One of my favorite
proverbs is, “It takes a village to raise a child.” I am looking
forward to working with you this year to help your child learn and
grow as a person and also in their academics. I will only have your
child for one fleeting school year and I want to make a contribution
that lasts a lifetime.
I am excited to begin this year at DCES, and I am
certain it will be a wonderful year.
