Welcome back Deer Creek families!  My name is Lisa Brown and I will be teaching all of the reading classes in 5th grade this year, as well as writing to my homeroom.  I graduated from UCO in 1986 with a Bachelor’s Degree in journalism and then completed my teaching certification in 1990.  Prior to teaching in Oklahoma, I taught 6th grade, all subjects, in Mesa, AZ and 15 years teaching 5th all subjects in the Putnam City Schools District at Coronado Elementary and Harvest Hills Elementary.  As you can see, 5th grade is definitely home for me!  I am so excited to be here at Deer Creek Elementary again this year.  I am part of a phenomenal team!

My husband, Jay, and I have been married for 19 years and have two spectacular kids.

Our son, Jenner, is a 9th grader, and our daughter, Jaime, is in 8th.   They both attend Bethany Public Schools as transfer students.  Jay is in the oil and gas industry.  Like most parents, we spend enormous amounts of time at our children’s various sports events as spectators and volunteers, as well as other activities including dance, piano, church, and being taxi cab drivers.  We are the neighborhood house that is always filled with kids and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

I enjoy playing board games & cards, OU football, walking my dog, family vacations, outdoor activities, Mexican food, and working out at the gym – which I manage to squeeze in at 5:30 A.M!

Fifth grade is such an exciting time.  Students switch classes all day, they are the “big kids” on campus, and we have Camp Classen to look forward to in May.  It is also a time of preparation for the adventures and challenges of middle school. It is my ambition to help your child progress and be successful.  By working together, we will make your child’s year a happy and rewarding one!

Being in the classroom brings me so much enjoyment.  I am truly blessed to have a job that I love so much.   I look forward to getting to know your entire family this year.
