Deer Creek Elementary

Lisa Brown
Fifth Grade

Hello Deer Creek families!  My name is Lisa Brown and I will be teaching 5th grade language arts here at Deer Creek Elementary. I graduated from Central State University (UCO today) in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in journalism and then completed my teaching certification in 1990. Prior to teaching here, I spent a few years teaching 6th grade in Mesa, Arizona and the last 15 years teaching 5th grade in the Putnam City School District at Coronado Elementary and Harvest Hills Elementary. As you can see, fifth grade is home for me! I am so excited to begin this next chapter in my teaching career here at Deer Creek! Being in the classroom brings me much enjoyment - I am blessed to have a job that I love so much!

My husband, Jay, and I have been married for 17 years and we have two children.  Our son, Jenner, is an 8th grader and our daughter, Jaime, is a 7th grader.  They both attend Bethany Middle School.  Jay is in the oil and gas industry.  Like most parents, Jay and I spend a great deal of time at our children's various sporting events, dance and music classes, church activities, and being taxi cab drivers.  We are the neighborhood house that is always filled with kids and we wouldn't have it any other way!

I enjoy playing board games and cards, attending OU football games, watching my children's many activities, walking my dog, taking family vacations, mexican food, and working out at the gym.

This year will be especially exciting for you and your fifth grade student.  It is the culmination of his/her elementary school years and a time of preparation for the adventures and challenges of middle school.  It is my ambition to help your student progress and succeed in his/her education.  By working together, we can make your child's year a happy and rewarding one.  I look forward to getting to know your child and making this one of the best years yet!
