Working with
children ~ what an exciting adventure! Kids are vibrant, energetic,
and filled with curiosity. They keep me smiling and young at heart!!
Watching kids of all ages develop into lifelong learners is what I
enjoy most about my career.
My teaching
career started over 15 years ago, after I spent several years
working outside education and staying at home with my children while
they were young. I entered teaching knowing it was the profession
for me. After spending a few years teaching preschool and several
teaching first grade, I wanted to know more. I received my Master’s
degree in Reading and have been a Reading Specialist ever since. I
am trained in the Love and Logic Positive Discipline for
teachers and parents, Schools Attuned assessment and am a certified
Cognitive Retraining therapist. Teaching is a gift that I treasure.
I can’t think of a more rewarding job than being a part of creating
strong readers, confident students, and lifelong learners.
My husband and
I met at KU and are blessed with 2 amazing children! We have one son
and one daughter ~ both in high school. We grow together as a family
through having dinner together, playing games, reading, traveling,
attending church activities, and laughing.
I am truly
blessed to share my days with the Deer Creek community. It is a joy
to be a part of a supportive staff and patrons. Thank you for all
you do to support not only your child, but also all the staff at
Deer Creek Elementary. Sir Richard Steele wrote, “Reading is to the
mind, what exercise is to the body.” Keep reading, to, with, and
around your child. The bridge between home and school is a child’s
road to success!
Happy Reading,
Shelly
