	Debbie Straughn Wins State Principals' Reading Challenge Deer Creek Elementary was recently notified that Principal Debbie Straughn won the Principal’s Reading Challenge for the third year in a row. The Deer Creek Elementary Vertical Team set a goal to challenge children to read 6,000 books in a three week time span. Home Depot became a partner in the challenge. Debbie was given a hard hat, apron, tool box, and blueprints to build a new mock library. Throughout the three week period, the entire student body filled a wheel barrow with books. They donated the books to Positive Tomorrows.

	Deer Creek Elementary Scores a Perfect 1500 on the State's API Deer Creek Elementary earned a perfect 1500 on the Academic Performance Index (API), the highest possible score based on achievement tests and daily attendance mandated by the "No Child Left Behind Act." The API score measures school performance. It allows educators an opportunity to chart their progress toward school improvement. This achievement is the result of efforts by parents, students, teachers, and district administrators.
